Uprising

Performed by Hofesh Shechter Company
Choreography and Music by Hofesh Shechter
Lighting Design by Lee Curran

‘With Uprising, I almost felt I had this wild dog inside me that needs to be unleashed. It’s really about the childish and competitive mood of a group of men flung together in a room, so there’s something very powerful about it. It’s loud; the guys are very, very physical. In the end, you feel a little bit sorry for the guys – in a way, there’s something slightly pathetic about their relationships.’

In Uprising, seven men emerge from the shadows to bombard the stage with furious energy, bonding and sparring, making up and falling out. This highly charged work, set to a throbbing percussive score also composed by Hofesh himself, leaves audiences buzzing.

Uprising premiered on 24 June 2006 at The Place, London. In 2014, Uprising was restaged at Nederlands Dans Theatre.
